I am searching for the trade rate of wampum beads in reference to stuivers and pennies, in the 1600's.

Now, from my reading, 3 black beads = 1 stuiver, and 20 stuivers = 1 gulden or florin.

Therefore 60 black beads = 1 gulden.

Black is worth twice that of white.

Therefore 120 white beads = 1 gulden.

Say, the average length of the bead is 1/4 inch.

60/4 = 15 inches for black and 30 inches for white.

30 inches = 2.5 feet and 15 inches = 1.25 feet.

I sell black beads at 10mm x 4mm for $10.00 at retail.

15 inches / 10 mm = 38.1 of the 10x4mm beads in 15 inches.

38.1 beads * $10 / black bead = $381.00 = 1 gulden or florin.

$19.05 = 1 stuiver.

$6.35 = 1 black, or zeewant, zeawant, seawant, seewant, seewan, seawan, or sewan.

Medium, or regular color, and also whelk shell creamy white color beads = 1/2 black beads.

$6.35 / 2 = $3.175

White beads = 1/2 of the medium.

$3.175 / 2 = $1.5875

Pale beads = 1/2.5 times the medium color price.

$3.175/2.5 = $1.27

That is because at wholesale, the 10x4mm drilled through tubes are $1.00, and the medium color ones are $2.50.

Now, for wholesale, this price is halved again.

$1.27/2 = $0.635.

And then my top grade customers get a 25% discount from this.

$0.635*0.75 = $0.47625 USD for pale colored beads.

But, I sell the 10mm beads for this system, which is the standard.

Therefore for the standard, or pale, I'll call this the standard,

Well, $2.50 for medium colored 10x4mm beads is the standard, or S. :).

480/2640*500 grams in pounds = 0.200420238 pounds * $3.9904 usd / pound copper = $0.799756918. So is about 80 cents right now. I can say is about a dollar. This is a 25% markup. Therefore asking a dollar, but will take about 70 cents or so. :).

In an article, I read that 50 stuivers are to the pound of copper. This would make a stuiver about the weight of a kitten. :). And, therefore 20 kittens equals a gulden. :). As a farthing equal to 24 carob copper, and 2 farthings equals a kitten. Then 40 farthings equals a gulden.

with 4 farthings equal a penny, then 10 pennies equals a gulden. I'm tired and my calculations may be off. Can edit this later if this is so. :).
