But, my thought was the silver coin.

too many variables here with the gold coin.

Ok, I read on the crown gold page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_gold the copper alloy is copper only.

Since standardisation of the UK's silver coinage in 1816 (UK Coinage Reform 1816), a crown has, as a general rule, had a diameter of 38.61 mm, and weighed 28.276g at 92.5% silver 7.5% copper.

28.276*.925 = 0.840912422 troy ounces silver

28.276*.075 = 0.00467534319 pounds

0.840912422* 30.07 = 25.2862365$

0.00467534319*3.1519 = 0.0147362142$

25.2862365+0.0147362142 = $25.3009727 = 1 crown

There are 60 pence in 1 crown

25.3009727/60 = $0.421682878 per pence

Ok, i'll look at the gold now.

3.73*22/24 = 0.109928761 troy ounces gold

3.73*2/24 = 0.000685270198 pounds copper

0.109928761 * 1625.8 = $178.72218

0.000685270198*3.1519 = $0.00215990314

178.72218+0.00215990314 = $178.72434

The money changed  178.72434/25.3009727 = 7.06393158.

Gold increased on silver over 7 times.

I prefer using the silver crown.

But, if 178.72434/240 = 0.74468475 per farthing. 

This is where I can have the farthing as a unit of account.

But, Borderland seems to be more of a silver crown money system.
